UCGWATERplus partners will collaborate on a range of different tasks to contribute to the 8 work packages in which the project is structured:
WP1. Running of UCG tests for the generation of contaminated waters and chars
WP2. Preparation of coal tar products for use as precursors in the synthesis of HCPs
WP3. Synthesis of HCPs from coal tar products and activated carbons from HCPs and UCG chars
WP4. Characterization of coal tar products, HCPs, activated carbons and starting UCG waters
WP5. Decontamination of UCG waters through adsorption by HCPs and activated carbons and coagulation processes
WP6. Decontamination of UCG waters through bioremediation and combined bioremediation-adsorption approaches
WP7. Technical and economic feasibility of decontamination approaches
WP8. Coordination and dissemination activities
UCG tests will be run in WP1 (GIG, PGG) to generate polluted post-processing water and residual chars. Different coal tar products will be prepared in WP2 (BASA) to serve as precursors for the synthesis of HCPs and their derived activated carbons with tunable porosity, together with activated carbons obtained from UCG chars, in WP3 (IJL-CNRS, INCAR-CSIC). The characteristics of the coal tar products, HCPs, activated carbons and polluted UCG water will be investigated in WP4 (BASA, IJL-CNRS, INCAR-CSIC, GIG, IChPW) to provide a rational basis for understanding the performance of the adsorption- and coagulation-based methods in decontaminating the UCG waters in WP5 (GIG, IJL-CNRS, INCAR-CSIC, IChPW). Bioremediation strategies, either alone or in combination with adsorption and coagulation methods, will be investigated in WP6 (IETU, GIG). A survey of the technical and economic feasibility of the decontamination approaches will be carried out in WP7 (PGG, GIG). Coordination and dissemination activities will be implemented in WP8 (all partners).
